Coach FAQs Questions and
Answers
What training do I need to become a
coach?
There is no official requirement
for coaches to be trained or qualified. However, there are professional
coaching bodies and coaching schools and coach training programs.
Some coach training is recognised under government training regulation
bodies such as the Australian National Training Authority. Coaching
skills courses provided by some of the coaching schools and coach
training providers are also recognised by the International Coaching
Federation for its various certification levels.
At Pentangle we have taken steps
to ensure our coach training is recognised under the Australian
Qualifications Framework through our strategic alliance with Workright
Australia, a Registered Training Organisation. We also ensure our
coaches are trained to work within the ethical guidelines of the
Australian Psychological Society and the International Coach Federation.
We strongly recommend that coaches have a background in psychology
or human behaviour and development. Pentangle screens coaches who
apply for its courses and only accepts those who can show they have
at least 50 hours of coach relevant training.
What do I need to be professional in
my coaching practice?
Coaches need more than training
to be operating at a professional level. Pentangle certified and
licensed coaches are provided with systems, tools and materials
that have been carefully designed using evidence-based research
into what works best in facilitating personal performance and personal
transformational change.
